Adaptations

Hunting in packs

Animals such as wolves and African hunting dogs hunt in packs to increase their chances of a successful hunt. It also allows them to bring down larger prey such as bison and buffaloes.

Using bait (anglerfish)

Anglerfish live in deep waters where there is virtually no light. With the help of bioluminescent bacteria, it produces its own light to attract smaller fish close to its mouth, allowing it to catch its prey easily.

Using tools (Egyptian vulture)

While many animals struggle to crack the shells of ostrich eggs, the Egyptian vulture uses rocks to get through the hard shell of the egg to feed on the nutritious insides.

Feigning death (snakes)

While many animals struggle to crack the shells of ostrich eggs, the Egyptian vulture uses rocks to get through the hard shell of the egg to feed on the nutritious insides.

Using traps (antlion)

Antlion larvae dig cone-shaped pits where they lie and wait for unsuspecting ants to fall into the cone.

Carnivorous plants

Plants that grow in nutrient-poor soil have modified leaves capable of catching insects to provide them with the extra nutrients they need to survive.
