Earthworms are detritivores, not decomposers! By feeding on food waste, they break matter into smaller pieces, increasing the rate of decomposition. Fungi and bacteria than break down the food waste into simpler substances.

Composting is a great way to recycle waste. When waste decomposes, they can be added to soil for plants to grow more healthily while avoiding the piling up of unsightly waste material.
