Living Things Reproduce

Some animals give birth to live young

Kangaroos are marsupials, a type of mammal! The mother gives birth to a tiny baby which must continue developing in its mother’s pouch after it is born.

Some animals lay eggs

Animals such as birds lay eggs instead of giving birth to live young. In order for their eggs to hatch, the mother and father emperor penguins take turns to keep the egg warm until the young is fully developed.

Some plants reproduce by seeds

Plants such as the tomato plant bear fruit which contain seeds. These seeds grow into young plants in the right conditions!

Some plants reproduce by spores

Plants such as ferns do not bear fruits. Instead of reproducing by seeds, these plants reproduce by spores – microscopic dust-like substances capable of growing into new ferns.
